How it all started..
District mot, pronounced “mort” is the first city of Saigon otherwise known as Ho chi minh. while travelling in Vietnam, long time friends Minh and Lyndon were sitting down on little plastic seats on the streets jokingly talked about opening a restaurant in Melbourne and making it feel like you were actually there in Vietnam, question shooting back and forth as the ice in the café sua da (Vietnamese coffee) slowly melted in the heat. What food would you serve? What would you do for the interior? How would you do the floors? Laughing at each others ideas and elaborating on others the friends left the conversation as that, just a pointless conversation. Back in Melbourne the friends went back to their usual life, it wasn’t until a few months later that Minh walking through Rose lane that he saw a site for lease, he decided to make some enquires and ended up signing a lease thinking he would expand his current Korean restaurants ohsso, but later finding out there was going to be a number of Korean eatery’s in the same laneway decided against that, but what could he do? He had already signed the lease. That is when he called his good friend Lyndon and the conversation went like this; Minh: hey I signed a new lease Lyndon: oh yeah, congrats expanding ohsso? Minh: nuh, lets do that viet shop idea we had, Lyndon: what? You mean the one we joked about in District mot? And just like that, a simple idea that is now District Mot.
